Gymnastics Meet

Deiana had her first real gymnastics meet.  She did really well, and ended up first on floor exercise, second on vault, third on beam (her nemesis), and 8th on bars (due to a small error).  However, she was first All Around!  It was very exciting, but she just can't get past her bar routine.  Even by night time she had not gotten over it.  She said "eighth place, are you kidding me? I'm not okay with that!"  Bars is her best and favorite event, so it was particularly disappointing for her.  She really does work and try very hard.    Hopefully she will learn to deal with her perfectionism!

A fun time was had by all, and the team took second place in the meet.  Many more fun meets to come this fall.  And many more bar routines!

First Day of Third Grade

Deiana was quite excited to go back to school and be in the third grade.  She got the teacher she really wanted and all of her friends are in her class, even her very best friend Yana.  This is our first day of school  photo shoot.

I've never seen anyone more excited for school.  I hope this trend continues for many years!  (I can hope anyway)

End of Summer Trip

We had our annual end of the summer trip to the beach.  The weather was beautiful all week.
It was great kite flying weather.  Deiana got the hang of the double stringed trick kite.

We decided to give Deiana her birthday present early, so she could enjoy it at the beach.  It is a pink electric scooter.  The neighbor boys have them and Deiana really likes them too.  She can also practice her scales while riding!

Deiana met a new friend on the beach.  They saw each other doing cartwheels, and it was love at first sight.  They are both in gymnastics and had a ball tumbling on the sand (and wrestling)  The family has a beach house 2 blocks from ours so they were able to meet up and have some fun.  They rode their bikes to the store alone to buy some candy.  This is the most freedom Deiana has ever experienced!  We even took Beach Girl out to dinner with us.  Maybe we will see her again at the beach or a gymnastics meet.

End of Summer Trip cont.

Deiana loves horse back riding so this was on the top of her list.  Jon enjoys it too.

Deiana was always trying to get her horse to go faster!
My horse was very stubborn and I had trouble making it do what I wanted.  The guide later told me, oh that is the one that was the wild Mustang that we trained!  Just what I wanted, the wild Mustang.

We also did some hiking.  Several miles of hills.  Deiana, while in the best physical condition of all of us, did the most whining.

Another day we had a great bike ride.  Woods, beach, and a lake in one trip.

More scooter riding and kite flying.
I really did participate in all of these events, there are just no pictures of me.  I'm the one with the camera!

Beach Birthday

We began our beach vacation by celebrating my birthday.  These flowers looked just like a cake, courtesy of family friend Jan!
There were fireworks and a live band on the beach!!  Sorry, the pictures aren't great.
Of course the events were not really for my birthday, but who cares.  It was a good time with good friends.
My friend Bev gave me some nice flowers too!
Anyway, I think I've had enough birthdays now.

New Glasses

Deiana got some new glasses before the new school year begins.  She wore glasses all last year, but has kind of taken a break from them this summer.  A new eye exam confirms that she needs to wear them all the time.  She would like to have contacts but maybe in another year.
She got two pair because we got a really great deal.  She is modeling them here.  They are similar, one pair are brown and the other black with polka dots on the sides.  I think they are very cute.

Heat Wave

We have been experiencing very hot weather for our area.  High 90's to low 100's.
Our air conditioner has to run constantly to make the house tolerable.
And we are just not use to the heat, but sunny weather is great and it will be gone before we know it.
Deiana had her friend over,  one of the girls from her gymnastics team.  They had already done 500 back handsprings in the living room so we went to the park for some cooling off fun.
They actually cancelled gymnastics practice today due to the 100+ degree weather. And the fact the the gym is not air conditioned.  That's okay, got their exercise flipping around our house.
Its nice to have a friend that is as wild and crazy as you are!  These girls are two peas in a pod.
Two more weeks of summer and back to school!!  Gymnastics meets also start in September!  That will all be new and exciting, we both can't wait.

Late Summer

Deiana's 6 week of activity and diet restriction post surgery were tough (kind of).  The time really went by quickly.  She was back at gymnastics (with some restrictions) after 2 weeks.  She was flipping off the furniture at home, so why not.
She quite enjoyed herself gorging on mashed potatoes and macaroni and cheese, and has actually not wanted to go back on a regular diet.
We have made it past the six week point with no complications, so all is back to normal.
We had a great time at our annual camping trip.  We had fun out on the water, Rosie really enjoyed the boat too.  Deiana couldn't do any wake boarding this year due to the risk of being hit in the face.  She did manage a slow tube ride.

Here is Deiana and my friend Bev taking a ride.

Jeremy is always the daredevil (since infancy)

Every year there is a theme night, this year we were pirates.  We really don't normally dress like a bunch of bikers.  Deiana loved her pirate girl costume and wants to wear it for Halloween!!  I love that idea. (By the way that is apple cider in her hand)

Just under one month of summer left for us.  There will be lots of gymnastics, playing with friends, shopping for new clothes (my personal favorite), and one final trip to the beach.  School starts on September 4, Deiana's birthday, so we'll end summer with a party.
